The goodgrange is a 2.3 acre farmstead in the Puget Sound region of Washington State. While much success has been had with growing a wide variety of crops and maintaining flocks of egg and meat producing chickens, many wonderful things are in the works to make the goodgrange even more productive, automated, and self-sufficient.
Advances in technology and the understanding of crop production has resulted in massive industrial farming, but a growing concern of the environmental impact of such operations, combined with a consumer’s desire to eat fresher, healthier, and more sustainably-sourced meats and produce has created a demand for locally sourced and responsibly grown food, much of which is already being done by backyard farmers. Goodgrange will help backyard and small local farmers be more productive with their efforts and more fruitful in their bounties to fill that need and support the local economy and community.
The goodgrange aims to:
- adapt the technological breakthroughs in industrial farming to the home farmer in accessible ways;
- discover and educate others about effective and efficient ways to grow food in various settings;
- bring together growers, sellers, and buyers in the local community to encourage local production and consumption; and
- connect avid growers and bumper crops with those in the community who have difficulty obtaining healthy food.
